How Did EV Sales Do In 2024?
Based on official JPJ statistics, the number of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Malaysia sold for the first six months of 2024 hit 10,664 vehicles – more than double from last year. This represented a 148% increase vis-a-vis the total amount sold last year which was only 4,410 vehicles. Overall this mirrored the trends we have been seeing for the past few years, where EV sales have constantly been on the rise. Percentage wise this represented 2.6% of all vehicle sales in 1H24 which amounted to 410,819 vehicles, also an increase as compared to 1H23 where EV sales only amounted to 1.1% of total sales.
Which Brands Reigned Supreme?
Brand wise BYD still topped the charts, contributing 4,369 vehicles to the aforementioned grand total for 1H24. Even though it was launched relatively later the BYD Seal actually exceeded the BYD Atto & BYD Dolphin in terms of sales. Coming in at second place was Tesla at 3,080 units with the ever popular Tesla Model 3 & Model Y. BMW came in at third place in terms of units sold at 808, followed by Chery (407), Smart (283) & GWM (278). Notable mentions included MG who logged 217 units despite only being recently launched. Bought An EV & Need To Install A Charger?
If you are one of the proud new EV owners that contributed to the above statistics – the next natural question would be on who is best to install the EV charger once you are in possession of the EV charger. Given the hazard risks associated with electrical systems and the fact that EV chargers draw an amount of electricity larger than most normal appliances, we always recommend that the installer be a professional installer who is ST (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) certified and also an authorized installer for the brand. This will also help with any warranty purposes if a malfunction with the charger does occur.
EV Connection is an authorized installer for many popular brands such as Tesla, BMW, Porsche, Audi, Chery, MG, Nissan to name a few. Installation prices start from RM1,900 and you can schedule a site visit via this link. Users who reside in high-rise buildings can also contact them via this link and they will be able to try sorting out a solution with your building management.
