How To Install EV Chargers At Condominiums Or Apartments
There are two main ways of installing EV Chargers at your condominium or apartment – we can help with both methods.
Why Install In A Condo / Apartment?
Almost 75% of Klang Valley, and a huge proportion of the urban population in Penang / Johor Bahru live in high rise buildings such as condominiums, apartments or flats. If you are one of them, and if you happen to have purchased an Electric Vehicle (EV) in Malaysia (or if you are just looking to purchase one), then chances are you would be wondering how can you actually install an EV Charger in your parking lot, such that you can charge your EV everyday after you get back home. This is especially important because this is where your car will spend most of the time at (think of the time when you are sleeping, resting, showering etc.).
Another reason is because the alternative, which is to pay for a Direct Current (DC) charger or Alternating Current (AC) charger at public charging spots will often times be more expensive. In fact, multiple companies have also warned of the potential lower lifespan of EV batteries that constantly use DC chargers.
There are two main methods in which you can achieve, this and EVC is able to help with both methods.
Method 1: Common Charging Area In Condo
The first method is to set up a common charging area in your condominium parking bay that will be shared with other residents of the condo on a first come first serve basis. This requires the agreement of the condominium management and also resident Joint Management Body (JMB). If you simply pass us the contact of the JMB or management personal, we will sort everything out for your including discussions with them, setting up the EV Chargers & infrastructure, compliance requirements etc. In fact, apart from this convenience we also provide many other benefits, so typically it is a no-brainer for the JMB to move ahead with these plans. Some major benefits to both the JMB and residents include:
1. Zero Capex / Zero Cost For The Condo
EVC offers a Zero Capex Programme which means from a condo / condo resident’s perspective – there is zero cost to setting up the EV Chargers. Given that the costs to set up EV Charging sites can balloon to figures such as RM500k or so, not having to fork out any costs would be one major benefit. As the EV Charger operator EVC also settles all other costs and complications such as cabling, insurance, compliance costs etc. It is thus massively convenient from a condo’s perspective to set up an EV Charging site.
2. Profit Sharing For The Condo
Notwithstanding the fact that there is no cost at all for the condo, EVC also offers a profit sharing incentive to the condominium. What this means is that as residents charge at the common charging bays, the condominium management / JMB actually gets a cut of all profits from that. Such profits can be then utilized by the body to improve or provide extra amnesties to the condominium residents.
3. Competitive Charging Rates
Apart from the JMB benefiting from this, you as an actual resident looking to charge your EV will actual benefit too, as our charging rates at condominiums are actually priced at a special rate of RM 0.70 / kWh for condominiums who sign up after August 2024. This is much cheaper than any other Charge Point Operators our there, and is almost equivalent to what a landed house owner would pay TNB if he charges at his own house with their home charger.

Method 2: Personal Charging Area In Condo
If you purchased an EV such as a Tesla, BYD, BMW, Porsche, Audi, Chery, MG, or Nissan to name a few – then you probably received a home charger that came along with your car. The second method is thus to set up a private charging area in your own condominium parking bay basis. This is again something that EVC can facilitate, and it will require the agreement of the condominium management and also resident Joint Management Body (JMB) once again. With this method, the charging bay is a private one so it will solely belong to you for your charging purposes.
